That Part…

I See You! 👀😂

Have you ever had one of those WOW moments?

You know—the kind where you stop right in the middle of what you’re doing and think:

“Wait a minute… when did THIS start happening?!” 😂

Or maybe you’ve had one of those Aha! tap-you-right-in-the-head moments when reality shows up uninvited and says:

“Hey! I see you!” 👀🤣

Well, let me tell you something…

Growing older is NOT for the faint of heart! 😂

I kid you not.

If you’re not careful, you’ll start questioning the whole aging process.

“Why me, Lord?”

“Why do I have to get older?”

“Wait… I don’t remember looking like THAT!”

And then comes one of the biggest traps of all…

Comparing yourself.

Ohhhh, don’t do it! 😂

You start comparing yourself to the younger version of YOU.

You pull out an old picture and stare at it a little too long.

“Look at my skin!”

“Look at my waist!”

“Look at my knees! They weren’t even complaining back then!” 🤣🤣🤣

And don’t even get me started on the mirror.

That mirror will humble you! 😳😂

Especially a FULL-LENGTH mirror.

Listen, don’t put a full-length mirror directly across from your bed unless you’re emotionally prepared for the truth first thing in the morning! 🤣🤣🤣

You wake up, turn over, look across the room and—

GOOD MORNING! THERE’S ALL OF YOU! 😳🤣

No warning.

No filter.

No good lighting.

Just YOU and the truth at 6:13 in the morning! 😂

That part… I see you! 👀🤣

Now, I already know what somebody is thinking:

“Lauretta, this is life. Everybody gets older. Aging is a natural part of life. You just have to accept it and keep moving.”

Oh, that’s real easy to say…

WHEN YOUR KNEES AREN’T SINGING THE EARLY-MORNING BLUES! 🤣🤣🤣

You get out of bed and suddenly hear:

Crack! Pop! Crrrrrk!

Hold on!

Was that my knee…

or did somebody just open a bag of potato chips?! 😂😂😂

And why do we make noises just getting up now?

“Ooooooh…”

“Whew!”

“Okay…”

Nobody hit us!

Nobody pushed us!

We just stood up! 🤣🤣🤣

But before we start feeling sorry for ourselves, let’s have some fun with this thing called aging.

Because there are some moments when you simply have to stop, laugh, and say:

“Now THIS is funny!” 😂

Let me rehearse a few things for you…

You Know You’re Getting Older When… 😂

You walk into a room and forget why you went in there.

So you walk back out…

and THEN you remember! 😂

You start looking everywhere for your glasses…

and they’re sitting right on top of your head.

That part… I see you! 👀🤣

You sit down carefully because somewhere along the way, sitting became the easy part.

Getting back UP requires a plan. 😂

And if you’re already bent down picking something up?

Oh, we’re not wasting that trip!

“While I’m down here… does anybody need anything?” 🤣🤣🤣

Then there’s the phone.

Why are the words getting smaller?!

You start with the phone here. 📱

Then here.

Then ALL THE WAY OUT THERE.

Pretty soon your arm isn’t long enough! 😂

And suddenly going to bed becomes an EVENT.

When you were younger:

“Where are we going tonight?!”

Now?

“What time are we leaving so I can get back home?” 🤣

Because somewhere along this journey, comfortable shoes, a good mattress, the right pillow, peace and quiet, and being HOME became absolutely wonderful.

And here’s the one that really gets me:

Your mind is still saying,

“Girl, we can do that!”

Meanwhile, your body has already sent an official memo:

“Dear Ma’am,

Effective immediately, we no longer participate in that activity.

Sincerely,

Your Knees, Back & Everything Else” 🤣🤣🤣

Now THAT is funny!

But somewhere underneath all this laughter, I think there’s an Aha Moment waiting for us.

Because maybe growing older isn’t something we should spend so much time fighting.

Maybe there’s another way to look at it.

That part…

Oh, I see you. 👀

Please Don’t Curse Your Golden Years ✨

Okay, we laughed. 😂

We laughed at the knees cracking, the reading glasses disappearing, the sound effects when we get up, and the body sending us little notices that say:

“Excuse me… we don’t do that anymore.” 🤣

But now let me say something that tapped me right in the heart.

Please don’t curse your golden years because your body is changing.

That part…

I see you. 👀

It’s easy to look in the mirror and focus on what isn’t the same anymore.

The hair may be changing.

The skin may be changing.

The shape may be changing.

The energy may be changing.

And yes, some mornings your knees might give you a weather report before you even look outside! 😂

But don’t allow the changes in your body to make you despise a season of life that you once prayed to live long enough to see.

You made it here.

Think about that.

Every line has a story.

Every scar has a story.

Every gray hair has probably got TWO stories! 🤣

And this body?

Oh, it may not move exactly like it used to, but look at everything it has carried you through.

It carried you through heartbreak.

It carried you through disappointment.

It carried you through raising children, working, serving, loving, crying, laughing, rebuilding, and starting over.

It carried you through some days when you didn’t even know how you were going to make it to the next one.

But you’re still here.

So maybe instead of standing in front of the mirror saying,

“Look what happened to me…”

we should occasionally look at ourselves and say,

“Look what I survived.”

Whew!

That part… I see you! 👀

The Bible says:

“The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.” — Proverbs 16:31 (KJV)

A crown of glory.

Now that’s a different way of looking at those gray hairs, isn’t it? 😂

Maybe these aren’t just our older years.

Maybe they really are our golden years.

Years where we know a little more.

Pray a little differently.

Love more intentionally.

Protect our peace a little better.

And finally understand that everything doesn’t deserve our energy.

Oh yes…

THAT comes with age too! 🤣

Younger me might have argued about it.

Golden-years me?

“Okay.”

And I’m going home. 😂😂😂

So yes, laugh when your knees start talking.

Grab those reading glasses.

Turn the font up another size.

Buy the comfortable shoes.

And if you need to be home by 8:00 p.m., baby, GO HOME! 🤣

But don’t curse this season.

You’ve earned the right to enjoy it.

Getting older isn’t evidence that life is leaving you.

It’s evidence that you’ve been blessed to keep living it.

That part…

I SEE YOU! 👀✨

Now Let Me Finish With This… 👀✨

Getting older is going to happen whether we cooperate with it or not. 😂

We can fuss about the wrinkles.

Argue with the gray hairs.

Get mad at the mirror.

And have a full-blown conversation with our knees:

“Now why are YOU hurting? We didn’t even do anything yesterday!” 🤣🤣🤣

But maybe that’s the problem.

We’ve spent so much time looking at what aging is taking away that we haven’t stopped to appreciate what growing older has given us.

Wisdom.

Experience.

Discernment.

Confidence.

Patience… well, sometimes. 😂

And most importantly, another opportunity to LIVE.

You don’t have to look like the younger version of yourself.

You’re not her anymore.

She was wonderful for that season.

But look at YOU now.

You know things she didn’t know.

You’ve survived things she hadn’t encountered yet.

You’ve prayed prayers she hadn’t needed to pray.

You’ve learned how to get back up after life knocked you down.

You’ve discovered what matters—and what simply isn’t worth disturbing your peace over.

So stop looking backward wishing you could become your younger self again.

Honor her.

Smile at her pictures.

Laugh at some of her decisions. 😂

Thank God for bringing her through.

But then…

turn around and celebrate the woman you’ve become.

💡 Lauretta’s Aha Moment

Maybe the golden years aren’t called golden because everything feels good.

Because clearly somebody forgot to tell these knees! 🤣

Maybe they’re golden because by the time we reach them, life has had enough time to refine us.

Gold doesn’t begin beautiful and polished.

It goes through a process.

And so do we.

The wrinkles, the gray hairs, the changing body, the slower steps—they don’t tell the whole story.

The real story is that you’re still here.

Still dreaming.

Still laughing.

Still learning.

Still loving.

Still becoming.

And most importantly…

God is still writing your story.

Psalm 92:14 says:

“They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.” — Psalm 92:14 (KJV)

Did you catch that?

STILL bringing forth fruit.

Your age does not cancel your purpose.

Your changing body does not cancel your usefulness.

And another birthday certainly doesn’t mean God is finished with you.

So the next time you catch yourself in that full-length mirror and think,

“Lord… what happened?!” 😳🤣

Look again.

This time, don’t just look for what changed.

Look for what survived.

Look for what grew.

Look for what healed.

Look for what God brought through.

Then smile at that reflection and say:

“Ohhhh… THAT part.”

I SEE YOU! 👀😂✨

And if your knee cracks while you’re saying it…

Just keep moving! 🤣🤣🤣

Getting older is inevitable.

Growing wiser is a blessing.

And growing older with laughter?

That’s GOLDEN. ✨
