“God Almighty”
Hey, Blogger Friends!
Another amazing, wonderful day that God has given unto us!
I pray that your day—and the days to come—will be everything you expected. And if not, maybe it’s time to set your expectations higher than average.
Go beyond average.
Aim so high that what you’re believing God for looks unattainable, unreachable, and downright impossible in your own strength.
Why?
Because God loves to work in places where He gets all the glory and honor!
Sometimes we set goals based only on what we can accomplish.
What can I afford?
What can I figure out?
Who do I know?
What resources do I have?
What am I capable of doing?
But what happens when you dream beyond your own ability and invite God Almighty into the vision?
That changes everything.
When your dreams, goals, and ambitions require you to trust God instead of depending entirely upon yourself, you leave room for Him to surprise you with an outcome bigger than anything you could have produced on your own.
So…
STOP THINKING SO LOW!
I know.
I know. 😂
It’s comfortable down there!
Thinking below average feels safe because we can calculate it, control it, and explain it.
But we have to stop putting limitations on ourselves—and then unknowingly putting those same limitations on God.
Sometimes the problem isn’t that God isn’t able.
We simply haven’t allowed ourselves to believe Him for more.
I can almost hear the invitation:
“Come up!
Come up a little higher.
Trust Me.
Believe Me.
Aim higher.
Put your hands to the work, and trust Me with what you cannot do.”
Go ahead.
Dream again.
Believe again.
Aim higher.
Because the God you’re trusting isn’t just The Man Upstairs.
He is GOD ALMIGHTY!
And that brings me to an amazing dream I had the other night—or should I say early morning.
The Dream
I dreamed that I saw a very tall man walking.
Across His shoulders was what appeared to be a beautiful red velvet shawl. I knew in the dream that it was Jesus, and it looked as though He was walking upon the earth.
But something immediately captured my attention.
There was a symbol on the red garment draped across His shoulders.
I recognized it as Hebrew.
The symbol resembled the Hebrew letter Shin (ש).
Shin is especially meaningful in Jewish religious symbolism because it is the first letter of Shaddai (שדי)—a biblical name for God commonly rendered “Almighty.”
And then…
The dream ended.
Just like that.
Now, I’ve had many dreams about the Lord before, but this one felt different to me.
I didn’t come away from it thinking only about what God might have been showing me.
I came away thinking about WHO HE IS.
GOD ALMIGHTY.
Beautiful, right?!?!
I think so! 😂❤️
I even asked ChatGPT to help me create an illustration representing what I saw. Of course, an illustration could never perfectly reproduce a dream, but it beautifully captured something of the majesty I remembered.
Then I started digging into Scripture.
And look what I found.
Genesis 17:1 says that the LORD appeared to Abram and declared:
“I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.”
There it was.
EL SHADDAI.
GOD ALMIGHTY.
Before God spoke to Abram about the covenant and what He was going to do, He identified Himself.
In other words:
Abram, before you focus on the promise, understand WHO is making the promise.
Whew!
That’s good right there!
Imagine This…
Imagine for a moment that God Almighty showed up at your doorstep.
What would be your first response?
Y’all…
From what I experienced in that dream, I already know what some of us would do.
PASS OUT ON THE FLOOR! 😂😂😂
Forget all that talking!
You would become silent.
Still.
Aware.
Because His presence is:
Holy.
Sovereign.
Majestic.
Righteous.
Magnificent.
There is a difference between knowing about God and becoming deeply aware of WHO HE IS.
And that’s where reverence comes in.
God loves us.
God invites us into relationship.
Scripture even speaks of friendship with God.
But intimacy should never cancel reverence.
Somewhere along the way, we’ve gotten very casual with God.
“The Big Guy Upstairs.”
“The Man Upstairs.”
“The Big Boss.”
“The Boss Man.”
“The Man Above.”
“The Higher Power.”
“The One Up Top.”
“The Big Man.”
😂😂😂
Now, I get it.
People sometimes use casual language because they’re trying to describe God according to their understanding or express closeness to Him.
But as our relationship with God matures, shouldn’t our understanding of WHO HE IS mature too?
He isn’t merely our “homeboy.”
He is our Sovereign King, Father, Creator, and Ruler of Heaven and Earth.
And Scripture has already given us beautiful names and descriptions by which we can know Him:
Yahweh — The LORD, the I AM.
El Shaddai — God Almighty.
El Elyon — God Most High.
Jehovah Jireh — The LORD Who Provides.
Jehovah Rapha — The LORD Who Heals.
Jehovah Shalom — The LORD Is Peace.
Jehovah Nissi — The LORD Is My Banner.
Jehovah Rohi — The LORD My Shepherd.
The more we know Him, the more we discover that one little slang name could never describe the magnitude of WHO HE IS.
And Then It Hit Me…
Maybe the beginning of this blog and my dream weren’t two separate messages after all.
I started by telling you:
AIM HIGHER.
Then I told you about seeing a symbol associated with:
GOD ALMIGHTY.
And suddenly I saw the connection.
How can I keep dreaming small when I say I serve GOD ALMIGHTY?
Aha! 💡
Maybe sometimes our dreams remain small because our view of God has become small.
We ask according to our paycheck.
We plan according to our resources.
We dream according to our connections.
We calculate according to our abilities.
And then we tell God Almighty what is possible.
😂
Something is backwards about that!
If He is El Shaddai—God Almighty—then I don’t have to make Him fit inside the limitations of my own understanding.
I can dream.
I can work.
I can pray.
I can obey.
I can aim higher.
And then I can trust the outcome to Him.
My dream reminded me of something I don’t ever want to forget:
When I saw Him, I had no choice but to stand in awe of WHO HE IS.
Not the “Big Guy Upstairs.”
Not the “Man Above.”
Not the “Boss Man.”
EL SHADDAI.
GOD ALMIGHTY.
So, Blogger Friends, here’s my challenge to you today:
Raise your expectations—but raise your reverence too.
Dream bigger, but bow lower.
Believe for more, but remember WHO you’re believing.
Aim higher, but keep God in His rightful place.
Because when you truly understand that the One walking with you is God Almighty, impossible doesn’t look quite as impossible anymore.
iDream.
I believe.
I aim higher.
Because I know WHO my God is.
EL SHADDAI — GOD ALMIGHTY. 🙌🏽❤️
