The Four Walls… Assemble Yourself

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

Let’s have some fun with this blog because I think this is a conversation worth having.

Many people believe they don’t have to physically gather with other believers to worship the Lord anymore. After all, that’s what livestreams are for, right? We can watch church from the comfort of our couch, sip our coffee, stay in our pajamas, and still hear a good message.

But here’s my question…

Is convenience God’s highest priority?

Is comfort the same as commitment?

Is God calling us to worship Him only from the comfort of our homes?

Or has convenience quietly become our excuse?

Let’s have an honest conversation.

The other day I had to make a decision. Was I going to do what my flesh wanted, or what my soul needed?

After a long day of work, I was tired. Really tired.

I could have easily stayed home.

I could have convinced myself that watching online was “good enough.”

I could have told myself, “God understands.”

And He does.

But He also knows when we’re choosing convenience over commitment.

I asked myself something that challenged me:

Am I going to let my feelings set the pace, or am I going to let my faith set the pace?

Work makes me tired.

Life makes me tired.

Family responsibilities can make me tired.

Yet somehow, every morning, I still get up for work.

I don’t text my supervisor every day saying, “I’m just not feeling it today.”

I prepare.

I show up.

I stay until the assignment is finished.

So why would I allow excuses to keep me from gathering with God’s people?

For me…

No more excuses.

The enemy doesn’t always tempt us with obvious sin.

Sometimes he simply whispers,

“Just stay home.”

“You can watch online.”

“You don’t really have to go.”

And before we know it, what started as an occasional absence becomes a habit.

Now, don’t misunderstand me.

Livestreams are a wonderful blessing.

They serve people who are sick, shut in, traveling, serving in the military, caring for loved ones, or facing circumstances beyond their control. They became especially valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic when churches were unable to gather safely.

But now that those restrictions have passed, we have to ask ourselves an honest question:

Has a temporary solution quietly become a permanent substitute?

I’ve heard many people say,

“It’s not about the four walls.”

“It’s about having a personal relationship with God.”

And that’s absolutely true.

God doesn’t live inside a building.

He lives inside every believer.

You can worship Him in your car.

You can worship Him in your kitchen.

You can worship Him while walking through a park.

But here’s what Scripture also teaches:

Our personal relationship with God was never meant to replace fellowship with God’s people.

The two work together.

The Bible says:

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together… and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

What does that mean?

It means God knew there would come a time when believers would be tempted to isolate themselves.

He knew the days would grow darker.

He knew deception would increase.

He knew our faith would be tested.

So instead of pulling away from one another…

He told us to gather even more.

This passage isn’t about checking a box that says,

“I went to church this Sunday.”

It’s about becoming part of the Body of Christ.

When we assemble together, we…

• Encourage one another.

• Pray for one another.

• Hold one another accountable.

• Exercise the gifts God has given us.

• Worship together.

• Grow together.

• Stand together when persecution, deception, and hardship come.

Why is this so important today?

Because Jesus warned us what the last days would look like.

There would be deception.

There would be wars and rumors of wars.

There would be false prophets.

There would be lawlessness.

The love of many would grow cold.

If ever there was a time believers needed one another…

It’s now.

Hebrews tells us:

“Not forsaking the assembling…”

Don’t make a habit of neglecting fellowship.

“Exhorting one another…”

Encourage one another.

Strengthen one another.

Comfort one another.

Correct one another in love.

And “so much the more” means that as Christ’s return draws closer, gathering together becomes even more important—not less.

So maybe…

Just maybe…

It’s not really about the four walls after all.

It’s about what happens inside those four walls.

Lives are transformed.

Hearts are healed.

Faith is strengthened.

Prayer is lifted.

Chains are broken.

Hope is restored.

And together we become stronger than we could ever become alone.

The building isn’t what makes the church holy.

The people gathered in Jesus’ name do.

Aha Moment

What if the blessing you’ve been praying for is waiting on the other side of your obedience?

What if the answer to your prayer is sitting three rows behind you?

What if the encouragement you desperately need is coming through someone God has assigned to speak into your life?

What if your worship is the very thing that breaks the heaviness you’ve been carrying all week?

You see, assembling together has never been about filling a seat. It’s about filling our hearts with God’s presence while strengthening one another in faith.

Yes, God is with you in your home.

Yes, you can pray in your car.

Yes, you can worship Him anywhere.

But there is something powerful that happens when believers gather together in one place with one heart and one purpose. There is a corporate anointing, a shared faith, and an atmosphere where God often moves in extraordinary ways. Throughout Scripture, we see God meeting His people when they assembled to seek Him, worship Him, and hear His Word.

The enemy understands the power of unity, which is why isolation has become one of his greatest strategies. If he can keep us separated, distracted, or convinced that gathering isn’t necessary, he weakens what God designed to strengthen us.

So as we see the day of Christ approaching, don’t let convenience replace commitment, and don’t let comfort replace obedience.

Because maybe…

Just maybe…

The four walls were never the issue.

The real question is:

Will I answer God’s invitation to gather with His people?

After all, the Church has never been about the building.

It’s always been about the Body.
