Living in Regret â Let It Go
Can you turn back the hands of time and fix what youâre regretting?
Of course not â and yet, so many of us try.
But I hear the Spirit saying:
âThere is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.â â Romans 8:1
So Iâll say it again: Let it go.
Living in regret is a slow killer. Itâs steady, progressive, and destructive â not always physically, but emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. Regret eats away at the soul, weakening your faith, stealing your peace, and creating room for guilt and self-condemnation to grow.
đ The Weight of âWhat Ifâ
When we live in regret, our minds replay the same scenes over and over:
âWhat if I would have? What if I could have? What if I should have?â
Those questions open doors for the enemy to torment your thoughts, reminding you of failures and mistakes until you begin to live trapped in your own past.
But again, I remind you â âThere is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.â
đď¸ A Lesson from
Great Expectations
Allow me to share one of my favorite classic TCM films â Great Expectations.
In the story, Miss Havisham was abandoned by her fiancĂŠ on her wedding day. Heartbroken, she stopped all the clocks in her home at the exact moment she received the news. She left her wedding feast untouched, the cake to rot on the table â and she herself remained in her decaying wedding dress for the rest of her life.
Thatâs what regret does â it leaves you to rot.
Miss Havisham never moved on. Near the end of her story, her dress catches fire, and she dies from her injuries â consumed, literally and symbolically, by what she refused to release.
Could she have recovered? Absolutely.
If this were a real story, with prayer, therapy, love, and Godâs grace, she could have healed.
Because our God still takes ashes and turns them into beauty.
âHe will give them beauty for ashes, joy instead of mourning, and praise instead of despair.â â Isaiah 61:3
đ§ The Enemyâs Playground: The Mind
The devil loves to use regret as a playground for destruction. He whispers, âYouâll never recover. Youâll never be good enough.â
But those are lies.
He is the accuser of the brethren â his mission is to keep you stuck in mental and emotional chains, unable to move forward. And if he can trap your mind long enough, heâll convince you that youâre beyond redemption.
But there is hope â even in the darkest nights of the soul.
đ¤ď¸ Scriptures of Hope
Romans 15:13 (NIV)
âMay the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.â
Meaning: God Himself is the source of hope. As we trust Him, He fills our hearts with joy and peace that overflows beyond our pain.
2 Corinthians 4:16â18 (NIV)
âTherefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day⌠So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.â
Meaning: Even in suffering, God renews us. What we see is temporary â but His glory is eternal.
đą The Importance of Mental Health
In todayâs fast-paced world, mental health is vital.
Think of your mind as a seedbed â the place where faith, hope, and healing take root.
When your inner soil is nourished through prayer, rest, and community, you produce fruit that blesses others: peace, joy, purpose.
But if you neglect your mental health â your soil hardens.
You stop growing.
You begin to wither inside.
Thatâs why itâs so important to check in with yourself â spiritually and mentally.
Seek counsel. Talk to someone. Let the light in again.
Imagine if Miss Havisham had allowed someone to walk her through her pain â her ending couldâve been so different.
đ Closing Reflection
So I say to you today â stop living in regret. Let it go.
Whatever it is thatâs keeping your mind trapped in yesterday â release it.
Get counseling.
Get prayer.
Get help.
You donât have to carry this weight another day.
Christ already paid for your freedom.
âWhom the Son sets free is free indeed.â â John 8:36
Let it go.
Live again.
Your best days are still ahead.
Signing off for now,
đ Your friend, Lauretta
