Girl, You Better Chew That Gum

Girl, You Better Chew That Gum

Ezekiel 3:3 (KJV): “Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

Psalm 119:103 (KJV)

“How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Hey Family

Have you ever worked in customer service, and the person you were serving chewing and popping gum like it was the best thing ever? Not only was they chewing the gum incredible fast but they had their mouth open; let’s not forget the conversation alone with it. They did not care what they looked like nor what they sound like, while they chewed on that gum.

After a while it becomes ignoring and you wanted to say…

Girl if you do t stop chewing that gum like that…?!!!

It almost becomes fighting words.

I remember chewing bubble gum with that pooping sound, and my mother would like a me with contempt and say- girl stop popping that gum…

Of course I would stop because the next thing she would tell me, “spit it out, now!”

Not later

But now!

Not tomorrow

But right now!

So guess what?

I stop popping it.

But when I got outside with my friend, there I got again chewing and popping..

Popping and chewing.

Not only me but my friend too

It’s like we competed to see who could pop the loudest.

Fun days back then.

I just think it was a cool thing g to do until you went to the dentist and the doctor says you got cavities.

And inThe back of your mind, you wonder if that gum had anything to do with that bubble gum.

As I take you back on this journey remember

There were all sorts of gums such as

  • Bazooka Bubble Gum – Original pink bubble gum

  • Bubble Yum – Original, grape, strawberry, watermelon, cotton candy

  • Hubba Bubba – Original, strawberry, blue raspberry, watermelon

  • Big League Chew – Original, grape, sour apple, watermelon

  • Bubble Tape – Original, grape, watermelon, cotton candy

  • Bubblicious – Original, grape, strawberry, watermelon, cotton candy

  • Double Bubble – Original pink gum

  • Super Bubble – Original

  • Fruit Stripe Gum – Mixed fruit flavors (with the famous zebra mascot)

  • Razzles – Starts as candy, turns into gum (raspberry, orange, lemon, grape, blueberry)

  • Chiclets – Peppermint, cinnamon, fruit flavors

  • Dubble Bubble Gumballs – Assorted fruit flavors

Fun fun memories

However today as I was in my draw station drawing my patients blood she took my whole mind down memory land chewing on her bubble gum. It’s smelled so good and if she just put it in her mouth.

Did she pop it?

Of course she did- and I looked at her and said, I going to blog about chewing bubble gum.

She look and smiled and said that would be a good blog.

When was the last time you actually chewed on God’s Word?

Not just read it.

Not just highlighted it.

Not just posted it on social media.

I mean…really chewed on it.

When you chew bubble gum, you don’t swallow it after five seconds. You keep working it. You enjoy the flavor. The more you chew it, the more the sweetness is released.

That’s exactly how God intended His Word to be.

Too many of us are in such a hurry that we treat the Bible like fast food. We read a verse, check it off our devotional list, and move on with our day.

But God never intended His Word to be inhaled.

He intended it to be meditated on.

The word meditate literally carries the idea of murmuring, pondering, and continually turning something over in your mind. It’s like chewing the same piece of gum over and over again.

The more you chew…

The more you taste.

The more you taste…

The more you understand.

The more you understand…

The more your life begins to change.

No wonder David said,

“How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth.” (Psalm 119:103)

Notice something.

David didn’t say God’s Word was sweet because he hurried through it.

It became sweet because he sat with it.

He thought about it.

He prayed over it.

He allowed it to sink deep into his heart.

That’s what chewing does.

It slows you down long enough to enjoy what you’re consuming.

Then I thought about Ezekiel.

God didn’t tell Ezekiel to simply look at the scroll.

He didn’t tell him to carry it around.

He told him to eat it.

“Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.” (Ezekiel 3:3)

Isn’t that interesting?

Before Ezekiel could speak God’s message to others…

He first had to consume it himself.

Sometimes we want to preach it before we’ve chewed on it.

We want to quote it before we’ve lived it.

We want to teach it before it’s transformed us.

But God’s Word was never meant to stay on the pages of our Bible.

It was meant to become part of who we are.

Just like that piece of bubble gum.

The longer you chew it…

The more it works.

Can I tell you something?

Some of us need to stop chewing on our problems and start chewing on God’s promises.

We’ve been chewing on fear.

Chewing on disappointment.

Chewing on what they said.

Chewing on yesterday.

Chewing on our mistakes.

Chewing on everything except the one thing that can actually change us.

Imagine if we spent as much time chewing on Philippians 4:13 as we do worrying.

Or Romans 8:28 instead of rehearsing our failures.

Or Isaiah 41:10 instead of feeding our fears.

Eventually…

What you’re chewing on begins to affect what’s coming out of your mouth.

If you’re constantly chewing on negativity…

Negativity comes out.

If you’re constantly chewing on offense…

Offense comes out.

But if you’re constantly chewing on the Word of God…

Faith begins to come out.

Peace begins to come out.

Wisdom begins to come out.

Hope begins to come out.

So today…

Girl…

You better chew that gum!

Only this time…

Don’t let it be bubble gum.

Let it be the Word of God.

Chew on His promises.

Chew on His faithfulness.

Chew on His goodness.

Chew on His love.

Chew on His truth.

Because the more you chew on His Word…

The sweeter life becomes.

Closing

Well Family…

Who would have thought a simple piece of bubble gum could remind us how to grow spiritually?

Sometimes God uses the simplest things to teach us the greatest lessons.

The next time you see someone chewing bubble gum—or maybe you’re chewing a piece yourself—I hope it reminds you of something far sweeter than grape, watermelon, or cotton candy.

I hope it reminds you to pick up your Bible.

Slow down.

Read a verse.

Then don’t rush away.

Chew on it.

Think about it.

Pray over it.

Let it roll around in your heart until it becomes part of your thinking, your speaking, and your living.

Don’t just read God’s Word…

Digest it.

Don’t just hear it…

Live it.

Because the more you meditate on His Word, the sweeter your relationship with Him becomes.

So today, I leave you with this question…

What are you chewing on?

Is it worry?

Fear?

Bitterness?

Offense?

Or are you chewing on the promises of God?

Remember…

Whatever you keep chewing on will eventually fill your heart, shape your mind, and come out of your mouth.

So…

Girl…

Boy…

You better chew that gum!

Just make sure it’s God’s Word.

Because unlike bubble gum, His sweetness never loses its flavor.

Until your next Aha Moment

The sweetest thing you’ll ever put in your mouth isn’t bubble gum—it’s the Word of God. Don’t rush through it. Chew on it. Meditate on it. Live it. And before long, you’ll discover that what was once just words on a page has become life in your heart. Until your next Aha Moment… keep chewing on God’s promises.

Keep chewing on God’s Word, because every promise He has spoken is still as sweet as honey.
