Donât Repeat That**
One weary Friday morning, I was minding my own business when I overheard a conversation and said, âChile, you know that ainât the truth!â
Have you ever listened to people talking over each other like theyâre running a marathon â trying to outtalk, outshine, or out-know the next person?
Your ears perk up, and all you want to say is:
âChile⊠please be quiet.â
or
âChile⊠SHUT that mess up.â
Because sometimes the back-and-forth be SO loud, SO wrong, SO messy â and SO unnecessary.
I hear these types of conversations often, and honestly?
Itâs unfair.
Why?
Because wrong information spreads fast, and lies travel quicker than the truth.
Weâve all heard the saying, especially from our former president:
âFake news!â
It was catchy, but letâs be honest â false information is nothing new. The Bible warned us long before politics did.
Yes, you have the right to your own opinion â thank God for freedom of speech. Some countries will imprison you for expressing your thoughts. But hereâs the issue:
What happens when your âopinionâ is actually a lie?
What happens when your words harm, accuse, or destroy someone who did absolutely nothing wrong?
Have you ever heard someone repeat something and you KNEW it wasnât true?
And all you could think was:
âChile PLEASE⊠stop that mess.â
âChile⊠thatâs nonsense.â
âChile⊠get out of here with that foolishness.â
We instantly want to defend the truth â for ourselves or others.
Guard Your Ears â Guard Your Spirit
Be careful what you listen to.
Be careful what you entertain.
Be careful what you repeat.
Some conversations are unhealthy, poisonous, and spiritually dangerous.
If itâs righteous â defend it.
If itâs harmful â depart from it.
Many lives have been ruined, relationships broken, jobs lost, and reputations destroyed because people indulged in conversations they never shouldâve entertained in the first place.
So⊠what does GOD say about all this âChile, please!â foolishness?
Letâs look:
What God Says About Unholy Conversation
1ïžâŁ Ephesians 4:29 (KJV)
âLet no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouthâŠâ
If it tears down, harms, or poisons â donât say it and donât stay in it.
2ïžâŁ Proverbs 18:21 (KJV)
âDeath and life are in the power of the tongueâŠâ
Wrong conversations carry death â emotionally, spiritually, and relationally.
3ïžâŁ Proverbs 20:19 (NIV)
âA gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much.â
The Bible literally says: AVOID people who stir mess.
4ïžâŁ 2 Timothy 2:16 (NIV)
âAvoid godless chatterâŠâ
Wrong conversations pull you OUT of alignment with God.
5ïžâŁ Psalm 1:1 (KJV)
âBlessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodlyâŠâ
Blessings are connected to what â and who â you refuse to sit with.
BONUS: Proverbs 26:20 (KJV)
âWhere no wood is, there the fire goeth outâŠâ
If you stop feeding the conversation, the drama dies. PERIOD.
So⊠Why Did I Title This Blog âChile⊠Please!â?
Because sometimes you need one simple phrase to shut DOWN foolishness
and shut OUT ungodly conversation:
Chile⊠PLEASE!
The phrase has personality, humor, and that little pinch of sass â you know the kind we use when weâre reacting with:
Shock
Disbelief
Annoyance
Humor
Sass
âWhew, Lord⊠not today.â
Itâs NOT about an actual child.
Itâs about the moment â about expressing:
âI refuse to participate in this nonsense.â
Examples:
âChile, I wasnât ready for that news!â
âChile, donât get me started today.â
âChile, the way my day wentâŠâ
âChile, God is still working on me.â
My Point?
Use your mouth for truth.
Use your voice for grace.
Use your words for edification â NOT destruction.
If you donât know the facts â
Chile please⊠donât repeat it.
If the conversation is toxic â
Chile please⊠walk away.
If they want you to join their gossip circle â
Chile please⊠not today, not tomorrow, not EVER.
What God Says About Gossip
1ïžâŁ Proverbs 20:19 (NIV)
âA gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much.â
â Gossipers cannot be trusted.
2ïžâŁ Proverbs 26:20 (NLT)
âFire goes out without woodâŠâ
â If you stop participating, the mess stops.
3ïžâŁ Ephesians 4:29 (KJV)
âLet no corrupt communicationâŠâ
â If it doesnât uplift â donât say it.
Closing Thoughts
Be mindful of your conversations â
at work, in the grocery store, at the dentist,
even in the soup line feeding your children.
Your words matter.
Your ears matter.
Your influence matters.
And if it doesnât build, uplift, or glorify God?
Chile⊠PLEASE.
Donât repeat that.
Let your mouth be seasoned with grace, your ears guarded with wisdom, and your heart aligned with truth.
