Between a Rock 🪨 and a Hard Place!

The Narrow Road — Are You All In or Not at All?

Matthew 7:13–14 (KJV)

Verse 13:

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:”

Verse 14:“Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

❤️ Hey, Blog Friends and Family!

Here we are again!

And today, I want to talk about something that I believe deserves our undivided attention.

BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE! 🪨

Now, before you start wondering what in the world a rock and a hard place have to do with salvation, just stay with me!

Because we’re about to walk down a road that Jesus Himself told us was narrow!

And here’s the question I want you to think about as we travel down this road:

ARE YOU ALL IN OR NOT AT ALL?!

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, it should be our desire to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Our goal is to live a life of faith that is pleasing unto God.

For we know that without faith, it is impossible to please Him! (Hebrews 11:6)

And guess what?

THERE IS NO WAY AROUND IT!

Your mother can’t live for Christ for you!

Your father can’t do it!

Your pastor certainly can’t obtain that personal walk of faith on your behalf!

You have to make that decision for yourself!

So, let me ask you something.

HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT?! 🏆

🏆 The Victory Has Already Been Won!

Here’s what makes this entire conversation so interesting.

Salvation for mankind has already been made available through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ!

THE VICTORY HAS ALREADY BEEN WON!

Jesus paid the price that we could never pay ourselves.

And because of His finished work on the cross, we have access to the Father through Him!

Think about everything God has provided for us!

We have a High Priest, Jesus Christ, who makes intercession for us!

We have the Holy Spirit, our Comforter and Helper, who guides us into truth and strengthens us in our walk with God!

We have the authority given to believers in the name of Jesus Christ to carry out His work according to His will!

We have the promises of God throughout Scripture to stand upon in faith!

And we have the Word of God to instruct us in righteousness!

SO WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?!

If God has provided everything we need for life and godliness through Jesus Christ, why are so many people still struggling to surrender their lives to Him?

Why are we standing at the entrance of the narrow road, looking over our shoulders at the broad one?

WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?!

🚶‍♀️ The Narrow Road Isn’t Always the Popular Road!

Jesus made something perfectly clear in Matthew 7:13–14.

There are two gates.

Two roads.

And two very different destinations!

One road is broad, and many travel upon it.

The other road is narrow, and few find it.

Now, let me ask you something!

WHY WOULD ANYONE WILLINGLY CHOOSE A ROAD THAT LEADS TO DESTRUCTION?!

I know!

That sounds like a ridiculous question!

But when you really think about it, people make decisions every day that move them farther away from surrendering their lives to Christ.

And sometimes, it’s not because they don’t believe in God.

Sometimes, it’s because they don’t want to give up the lifestyle they’ve become comfortable living!

Oh, I know!

Because I’ve heard some of these statements on more than one occasion!

“I GOT TIME!”

“GOD UNDERSTANDS!”

“I’M SAVED FOREVER, EVEN IF I CONTINUE LIVING IN SIN!”

“I’M TOO YOUNG RIGHT NOW! MAYBE LATER!”

“THERE ARE STILL SOME THINGS I WANT TO DO BEFORE I GIVE MY LIFE TO THE LORD!”

REALLY?! 😳

Now, I’m not here to condemn anyone.

But I do want to challenge that kind of thinking!

Because here’s my question.

HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE?!

Who promised you tomorrow?

Who told you that next week, next month, or next year would be available for you to make that decision?

James 4:14 reminds us that our life is like a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

So why would we gamble with something as precious as eternity?

🪨 Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place!

NOW WE’RE GETTING SOMEWHERE!

Have you ever heard someone say:

“I’M STUCK BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE!”

Usually, that means they’re caught between two difficult choices and don’t know which direction to take.

But let’s bring that expression into the conversation about salvation!

Being stuck between a rock and a hard place, spiritually speaking, can describe someone struggling between two decisions:

Surrendering their life to Jesus Christ or continuing to live according to the ways of the world.

They recognize the truth!

They’ve heard the Gospel!

They know that Jesus is calling them to repentance and faith!

But something keeps pulling them in the opposite direction!

And before you know it, they’re standing in the middle of a spiritual tug-of-war!

One foot pointing toward surrender!

The other foot planted firmly in the world!

MY GOODNESS! HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO STAND THERE?!

The struggle may be real, and I understand that surrendering your life to Christ can seem overwhelming.

But let me ask you something.

Why do you believe serving God will put a damper on your dreams, goals, and aspirations?

Who told you that following Jesus means your life has to become miserable?

Who convinced you that surrendering to God means losing everything good about your future?

THAT’S NOT WHAT SURRENDER IS ABOUT!

God isn’t asking you to stop living!

He’s calling you into a life that is centered on Him!

He isn’t forcing you to love Him.

He’s inviting you to willingly surrender your heart, your plans, and your desires to His will.

And trust me, His wisdom is far greater than ours!

Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Now, doesn’t that sound like a better way to travel?

🤔 Could Double-Mindedness Be the Problem?

Here’s where I want us to examine something else.

The Bible tells us in James 1:8 (KJV):

“A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

OUCH!

Could this be part of the problem?

Could the reason you’re struggling to move forward be that your heart is divided?

One day, you’re ready to surrender everything to God!

The next day, you’re reconsidering because something in the world has caught your attention!

One moment, you’re declaring:

“LORD, I’M ALL YOURS!”

And the next moment, you’re saying:

“LORD, JUST GIVE ME A LITTLE MORE TIME!”

WHAT?! 😳

Now, don’t misunderstand me.

Every believer experiences moments of weakness, temptation, and spiritual struggle.

But there’s a difference between struggling while sincerely following Christ and deliberately refusing to surrender to Him.

One heart is seeking God even through its weaknesses.

The other keeps postponing the decision to follow Him.

And that’s something we must seriously consider!

HOW LONG WILL YOU CONTINUE WAVERING BETWEEN TWO DIRECTIONS?

⚠️ You Cannot Serve Two Masters!

Jesus said in Matthew 6:24 (KJV):

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.”

Although Jesus was specifically addressing serving God and mammon, the principle is clear.

GOD WILL NOT SHARE THE THRONE OF YOUR HEART WITH ANOTHER MASTER!

You cannot deliberately hold on to a life of rebellion against God while claiming that you’ve fully surrendered to Him.

You cannot continually choose darkness while insisting that you want to walk in His light.

And you certainly cannot make the broad road your chosen direction while expecting it to arrive at the same destination as the narrow road!

THOSE TWO ROADS DO NOT LEAD TO THE SAME PLACE!

God has made it clear that He alone is worthy of our worship and devotion.

He is a jealous God, not because He lacks anything, but because He will not accept the worship of false gods.

And the Lord calls us to put Him first!

Now, I want to be careful here.

We are not saved because we have performed enough good works or because we have managed to live a flawless life.

WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST!

Ephesians 2:8–9 makes that beautifully clear.

But genuine faith is not simply saying we believe in Jesus while having no desire to follow Him.

A surrendered heart begins to produce a changed life!

Not because we are earning salvation, but because God’s grace is working within us!

❤️ Come Out of the In-Between!

So, Blog Friends and Family!

Here we are!

Standing at the conclusion of this conversation, and I have one final question.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?!

Are you going to keep standing between that rock and hard place?

Keep making excuses?

Keep putting off surrender?

Keep telling yourself that tomorrow will be a better day to give your life to Jesus?

Or will you finally say:

“LORD, I SURRENDER! NOT MY WILL, BUT THINE BE DONE!”

Remember, the narrow road isn’t necessarily the easiest road.

Jesus never promised that following Him would mean a life without difficulties, sacrifices, or trials.

But He did promise to be with His people!

And that’s what makes the journey worthwhile!

You may experience hardships along the way.

You may have to release things that once seemed important.

You may even have to walk away from relationships, habits, and desires that are pulling you away from God.

But what could possibly be more valuable than eternal life through Jesus Christ?

MARK 8:36 (KJV)

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

THINK ABOUT THAT!

What good is gaining everything this world has to offer if, in the end, you lose what matters most?

💡 Lauretta’s Aha Moment!

THE NARROW ROAD MAY REQUIRE SURRENDER, BUT THE BROAD ROAD WILL COST YOU FAR MORE THAN YOU EVER IMAGINED!

Sometimes, the hardest place to be isn’t between a rock and a hard place.

IT’S BETWEEN KNOWING THE TRUTH AND REFUSING TO MAKE A DECISION ABOUT IT!

And here’s something else I want you to remember.

Jesus Christ is the Rock upon whom we can build our lives!

He isn’t the obstacle keeping you from eternal life.

HE IS THE WAY TO ETERNAL LIFE!

Jesus said in John 14:6 (KJV):

“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

So stop treating surrender as though it’s the end of your life.

Through Christ, it’s the beginning of a new one!

THE ROAD IS NARROW!

THE GATE IS STRAIT!

BUT JESUS IS STILL THE WAY!

And now, my Blog Friends and Family, the question remains:

ARE YOU ALL IN OR NOT AT ALL?!

Don’t allow indecision to keep you standing between a rock and a hard place when Jesus is calling you to follow Him.

CHOOSE THE NARROW ROAD! ❤️
